The Salt Penguin is an obvious gift for your host or a Christmas gift – and at the same time a natural companion of the Pepper Bird. The two design icons have made an inseparable pair since the mid-1990s.
J.I. Christoffersen was a trained carpenter. He appreciated the unique properties of wood and emphasized that good design should be functional too, not just look good. At the same time, he didn't shy away from excelling with beautiful lines and shapes.
The original Salt Penguin was made in white birch wood and black wenge wood from Africa.

The Pepper Bird was first produced in the late 1950s, and it became an instant favorite in Danish homes. The Pepper Bird brings a good mood to the dining table. It is a humorous, decorative item that creates lots of excitement among kids.
After a few years in the spotlight, the Pepper Bird faded. But it had already become a design icon, and many connoisseurs sought it out at antique furniture shops. It is therefore no surprise that it became an instant "new-classic" when Spring Copenhagen relaunched it in 2015.

The Salt Penguin and Pepper Bird are unique handmade and hand-assembled wooden products that are bound to have some variation between one and another. As such, each item is unique, and no two are exactly the same. Clean with a damp cloth. Apply beeswax regularly on all our products for maintenance, then they will last a lifetime and beyond, as they can be passed on from generation to generation.
